Trump to speak at NRA meeting in Dallas

When Vice President Mike Pence takes the stage at the National Rifle Association's Annual Meetings in Dallas this week, the organization is asking attendees to leave their guns at home.

Trump and Pence are scheduled to speak at a noon event on Friday at the convention center.

Authorities in Dallas say they are prepared for large protests as the National Rifle Association kicks off its convention in the downtown area. "Can someone explain this to me?"

"Wait wait wait wait wait wait you're telling me to make the VP safe there aren't any weapons around but when it comes to children they want guns everywhere?" Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Cameron Kasky wrote on Twitter that "The NRA has evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself".

Pence will speak at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action leadership forum on May 4.

Licensed handguns (both concealed carry and open carry) are permitted on premise, as allowed by state law, unless the type of event being held at the [Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center] falls under an exception that would prohibit a person with a license to carry a handgun at the event.

As Liasson reported, the NRA spent more than any other outside group on Trump's presidential campaign - more than $30 million. Trump brought up the possibility of raising the age to buy a long gun from 18 to 21, and the administration is moving to potentially implement a ban on bump stocks.

"The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end", Trump told the crowd.
