Mattocks told STAR Sports that the likely arrival of Rooney, who now plays for Everton in the English Premier League, will be a major boost for the club and its players.

Rooney's proposed move is likely to be confirmed on July 10, when the MLS "secondary" (or mid-season) transfer window opens.

Rooney's representatives have been in the United States to negotiate terms and the former England skipper is believed to be willing to leave the Premier League club.

Rooney is on the back half of his career, and Everton has experienced a disappointing season.

There was much support on social media for the singer's calm reaction to the drama and she finished 24th in the rankings. The singer kept her composure to finish her song, Storm , which was written by Brisbane songwriter Nicole Blair.

The agreement, which runs to the end of the MLS season in 2020, is yet to be signed, but SSN understands it would take a significant change of heart by Rooney and his family to stop the transfer going ahead.

The former England captain left Manchester United to return to his boyhood club Everton previous year, but his form has gone downhill over the last few months.

Both BBC Sport and Sky Sports have reported that Rooney has "agreed to a deal in principle" to leave Everton and join D.C. over the summer, midway through the MLS season.

"At the moment he is an Everton fan as well as an Everton player so I wouldn't consider anything is on the cards at the moment".

However, after reports claimed Sam Allardyce would be unable to guarantee the 32-year-old a starting berth at the Toffees, it now appears a move to America is a very real possibility for Rooney.

"If Wayne's time is up at Everton, there's no reason why Rangers shouldn't put their name forward", Gray told talkSPORT host Jim White on Tuesday.

He added that he is hoping to learn a lot from Rooney, who is England's all-time leading scorer, with 53 goals in 119 appearances.
