Trump welcomes N Korea's nuclear site plan

Ahead of the historic meeting between Kim Jong-un and the US President next month, Pyongyang announced that tunnels at the nuclear site will be destroyed in an explosion, while observation and research facilities will also be removed. Moon welcomed Kim's plans to publicly blow up North Korea's nuclear test facility.

North Korea has begun dismantling the country's only known nuclear test site, according to satellite photos, following through on a promise made by leader Kim Jong-un ahead of his meeting with Donald Trump.

Satellite images examined by American researchers appear to show building demolitions, removal of railways, and overturned mining carts at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in North Korea.

The plan to dismantle the nuclear test site signals readiness of the North to pursue the path of denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula but understandably it would require cooperation and encouragement from other parties as well. Additionally, according to experts, North Korea has also partially dismantled the rails of the trolleys, which lead from the tunnels.

Pompeo, who has met twice with the North Korean leader to discuss the summit, said he was "convinced" Kim shared USA goals. He added that the Trump administration was focused on making sure "we didn't end up where we were before" in the talks with North Korea.
