Apple hits hard on privacy, Memoji in new iOS update

Apple iPhone WWDC 2018 iOS 12

OLIUR RAHMAN • UNSPLASHApple's WWDC 2018 Developers Conference gets underway tomorrow

Another year, another version of iOS.

Apple has officially confirmed a new update to the iPhone and iPad operating system: iOS 12.

So if you want to watch from home, you've potentially got more ways than ever before. Apple has also introduced a new AR format - USDZ - and a new augmented reality measuring app call Measure.

iPhones have had NFC chips in them for years, but until now they've been restricted for use with Apple Pay only. In iOS 12, up to 32 people will be able to join the same FaceTime conversation and users can converse with one another using personalized avatars called "Memojis" using iPhone X's facial recognition technology. While a beta program will likely expand availability to Mac, iOS, and Apple TV users in the near future, the company has not previously released public betas for the Apple Watch.

At its WWDC gathering on Monday, Apple unveiled the many features included in iOS 12, which launches in September.

Tweaks to the CPU software should mean that these speed upgrades don't come at too high a cost to battery life. Even when there is a lot going on across the system, apps can launch up to twice as fast.

United States accuses China of 'intimidation' in South China Sea
Mattis responded that the question reflected a fundamental disconnect with the way worldwide tribunals have spoken on the matter. Last month, China landed bomber aircraft on islands and reefs in the sea as part of a military training exercise.

The new iOS will also get you complete weekly reports of how you use your device, what sends you notifications, what time you spent on different apps, among other thorough statistics.

Reports in the United States suggest Apple could introduce a tool to help users better manage their time on their devices as part of efforts to improve digital well-being.

For parents, the tool allows them to monitor their children's usage as well as their own, and even give an "allowance". If they want a little extra time, they can hit ignore - a bit pressing snooze on the alarm app.

Also, iOS 12 now groups notifications by app and topics. Next week's developers conference may bring more updates to Siri and HomePod as both have been major points of focus for Apple in the past year. With Siri Shortcuts, users will be able to build their own commands with any application.

Setting up Shortcuts will be simple.

Along with ARKit 2, Apple announced a new app called Measure that lets you measure objects and distances in augmented reality.

Trump tweets he 'never fired' Comey over Russia, contradicting reports about memo
Comey's firing is one part of Mueller's inquiries into whether Trump tried to obstruct the investigation. The review is mostly focused on DOJ's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

They include the ability to automatically detect when a workout has begun, so that if the user presses start several minutes later they can still be credited with all their activity. Group FaceTime opens up a new world of group communication, and there are also updates to Apple Books and Apple News in the form of redesigns.

Apple is adding a collection of features created to stop people getting addicted to their devices.

Apple is also expected to push its message of data privacy at WWDC.

This dedicated Apple Events app lets you stream today's event as well as rewatch older keynote presentations. It'll recognise images in search and provide search suggestions to help you find the events you've captured on your iPhone. A new design makes it easier to capture, share and edit recordings.

The Photos app gets an extra For You tab. If you should need to restore your iOS device, you can use this backup and not have to enter passwords.
