Trump backs out of G-7 communique, criticises Canadian PM Trudeau

This picture from G7 summit 'speaks a thousand words' on global power dynamics

US trading partners are furious over Trump's decision last week to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico as part of his "America First" agenda.

President Trump speaks with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde as they attend the Gender Equality Advisory Council Breakfast during the G7 Summit in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, June 9, 2018.

The summit did not mark the end of the transatlantic partnership between Europe and the U.S., Merkel said. French President Emmanuel Macron's eyebrows are furrowed, and his knuckles are digging into the desk; he looks exasperated. Shinzo Abe of Japan looks on with a world-weary expression.

First Man Trailer Sends Ryan Gosling to the Moon as Neil Armstrong
The film marks the second collaboration between Chazelle and Gosling after their critically acclaimed musical La La Land (2016). Corey Stoll plays Buzz Aldrin, with Kyle Chandler as Deke Slayton, Jason Clarke as Ed White, and Pablo Schreiber as Jim Lovell.

Merkel was not the only one to criticize Trump's move.

Trump's "America First" message to allies has hardened since he brought hardline national security adviser John Bolton on to his team. "It may not be politically correct to say it, but we have a world to run".

Mr Trump on Saturday threw the G-7's efforts to show a united front into disarray after he became angry with Mr Trudeau, and said he might double down on import tariffs by hitting the sensitive auto industry.

Justify achieved one of the sports' toughest feats 45 years to the day that Secretariat won the Belmont by a record 31 lengths. He did so with American Pharoah in 2015, ending a 37-year drought. "I think it was just a special case", he said. "I'm not.

That wrestling cry would have been an apt announcement at the G-7 summit, what with the U.S. and other heads of state at each other's throats using the thrust and parry of rude remarks and social media to pummel each other.

Turning to Russia, Merkel said she could imagine Moscow re-joining the G7 format at some point, but not before Russian President Vladimir Putin fully implements the peace plan for Ukraine by withdrawing his occupation forces back across to the Russian side of the border. At the summit, Trump refused to endorse a group deal, saying other members use unfair trade practices against the United States. Kudlow admitted to CNN on Sunday that Trump had "compromised on the communique" but changed his mind later, seeing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's appear vindicated after the summit. "After a long day of work and very direct dialogue, we are actively seeking an ambitious agreement", an English translation of Macron's tweet reads. "International cooperation cannot depend on anger or small words".

Jeremy Corbyn, the head of the opposition and the leader of Labour party, denounced the summit as a failure caused by Trump.
