Sony is locking Fortnite accounts to PS4, and players are mad

Fortnite For Nintendo Switch Released

Sony's Cross-Play Policies Are Hurting Fortnite Players on Nintendo Switch

You still can't play Fortnite on Switch with your main Epic account if it's ever been associated with PS4, and Sony has finally issued a statement responding to player concerns.

Sony put Insomniac Games in charge of "Spider-Man", Sucker Punch is developing "Ghost of Tsushima", and Naughty Dog is leading the way on "The Last Of Us Part II", but what's impressive is how all three of these games already show the level of polish fans have come to expect from a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Switch and Xbox One users could play with each other, as well as PC users, but not with PS4 players. And if there was any hope that things might change, Sony's statement closed by saying, "We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point". Sony has chose to block those players from cross-play or being able to access and sync their gamer accounts between consoles.

Fortnite is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and iOS.

First Man Trailer Sends Ryan Gosling to the Moon as Neil Armstrong
The film marks the second collaboration between Chazelle and Gosling after their critically acclaimed musical La La Land (2016). Corey Stoll plays Buzz Aldrin, with Kyle Chandler as Deke Slayton, Jason Clarke as Ed White, and Pablo Schreiber as Jim Lovell.

It's fine though, because Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are celebrating by giving devoted gamers basically every single deal they've ever wanted, plus release dates and preorders for games we've literally been waiting years for. These links leave Siliconera.

Sony hasn't claimed direct responsibility for the issue, but Xbox chief Phil Spencer has expressed a desire for cross-play between systems. "It does the opposite of what you want - it makes me think about moving to Xbox for Fortnite".

Sony has faced criticism for blocking cross-play in other titles in the past, including Minecraft and Rocket League.

Ultimate Edition buyers will also be able to begin playing the game four days before the official release date, October 2nd. Three years later, Xbox's backward compatibility for older games has become one of the console's defining features.

The release of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch was inevitable but still a very welcome bit of E3 news - especially with the whole "it's out now" angle.

While creating a new Fortnite account is free, using one means giving up any earned skins, sprays, and emotes on your original account, and sacrificing progress on your current Battle Pass. In a statement to BBC News, a Sony spokeswoman said the following. They are even angrier that Sony never warned them that they could be locked out of playing on the Switch. "When it comes to other platform holders, as much as you have influence on other platform holders, I don't", Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon. "That's a decision that each of them are making, and some are supporting cross-play, and some are not".
