President warns Harley-Davidson: 'We won't forget'

Harley-Davidson To Shift Production Overseas To Offset EU Tariffs

Harley, stung by tariffs, shifts some production overseas

In a series of caustic early-morning tweets Trump dismissed any notion that his policies were responsible for Harley-Davidson's move.

Harley-Davidson should stay 100% in America, with the people that got you your success.

"That was long before Tariffs were announced", Trump said on Twitter.

Harley said Monday it's moving the production of motorcycles destined for Europe to factories in Thailand, India and Brazil in response to the European Union slapping a 31 percent tariff on motorcycles made in the U.S. Trump then threatened the company "will be taxed like never before" if they follow through with the move.

Manager Jorge Sampaoli has made five changes for the must-win game and set out a 4-4-2 stall. Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higauin are both expected to get the nod for the 7pm kick off.

Either way, moving some production overseas looks like it may be in Harley-Davidson's best interest.

The tweetstorm comes one day after the president said he was "Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the white flag".

"We don't want to punish, but that is the unfortunate outcome, that (US companies) will put pressure on the American administration to say hey, hold on a minute, this is not good for the American economy", EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said on Tuesday. The EU raised an existing tariff it had on the company's motorcycles by nearly five times in retaliation for the U.S.' tariffs on EU aluminum and steel.

The Milwaukee-based company said on Monday it will move production of motorcycles shipped to the European Union from the United States to its global facilities and forecast that the trading bloc's tariffs - introduced as a counter to Trump's tariffs on some EU-produced metals - would cost the company $90 million to $100 million a year. But many of Harley's motorcycles sold in India are assembled in the country, so they may not be subject to the tariffs anyway. "Hence, they were just using Tariffs/Trade War as an excuse", he said.

Rising trade tensions and retaliatory tariffs could pose serious risks for Harley-Davidson, rating agency Moody's said on Tuesday.

MrTrump ridiculed the company for building motorcycles overseas. Trump wrote. "Their employees and customers are already very angry at them".

"The president is saying enough is enough", she said. "I was the one that explained to Harley about 100 per cent tax in India. and I got it down to a much lower number. which is, I think, 50 per cent, which is far too much, but they were paying 100 per cent". If they move, watch, it will be the beginning of the end - they surrendered, they quit!
