Trump's planned White House meeting with Putin pushed back to next year

The invitation sparked a new outcry, including from lawmakers in Trump's Republican party, who argued that Putin is an adversary not worthy of a White House visit and that they still did not know what the leaders had discussed during their two-hour, one-on-one meeting.

On July 16 in Helsinki, Putin said he had wanted Trump in the White House because he thought US-Russia ties would benefit.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday delayed a second summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin, while his top diplomat insisted there was no let up against Moscow following the two leaders' controversial meeting in Helsinki.

Speaking about a possible new summit between the Russian and United States leaders, Putin's top foreign-policy aide Yury Ushakov said earlier this week that the Kremlin received several days after the Helsinki meeting a United States proposal to organise a new summit in Washington "at the end of the year".

They also took Pompeo to task for the apparent lack of progress in nuclear negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, more than a month after a summit meeting that Trump hailed as a resounding success.

Trump Warns Iran: ‘Never, Ever Threaten the United States Again’
As for a new nuclear agreement, Iran has said it wants to retain the 2015 agreement it signed with the United States and allies. Asked by reporters at the White House whether he had concerns about provoking tensions with Iran, Trump said "None at all".

"It was an incredibly constructive engagement for President Trump and President Putin, an important one for the world", Pompeo said.

Trump initially denied the Federal Bureau of Investigation findings at the press conference following the one-on-one meeting with Putin.

Pompeo said he had personally told top Russian officials that there will be "severe consequences" for any interference in US elections or the American democratic process. Almost half of respondents - 47 percent - said Trump is guiding the nation's foreign policy toward negative consequences.

Trump said the ball was going to be gifted to his 12-year-old son, Barron.

Trump's contention that Moscow would favor Democrats in the November 6 congressional contests -when the entire 435-member House of Representatives and a third of the Senate is up for election - is at odds with the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump win the White House.

In addition, the European Union Election Observation Mission (EUEOM) consisting of 100 observers will also monitor the elections. In the 1997 general elections, for the first time, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) of Nawaz Sharif won a landslide victory.

A majority of Americans said they want the forge a relationship with Russian Federation, but Americans are split on whether or not Trump should view Putin as an ally or an enemy.

The statement came as the US announced that it has no intention of recognizing Russia's 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula and will not drop its economic sanctions against Moscow until Crimea is returned to Kyiv's control.

"It's only productive if we understand who he is and what he wants", Rubio said. A pending proposal is also being pushed forward to sway the Trump administration to make these sanctions mandatory, as well as stricter repercussions for the Russian officials who interfered.

Mr. Pompeo was on clean-up duty following Mr. Trump's poorly-reviewed summit with Mr. Putin last week in Helsinki, in which the president at times seemed to be challenging his own intelligence services' evaluation of Russian meddling in the US political system.

These "were also official USA policy not long ago" because Mr Trump's predecessor Barack Obama "personally decided so", she said.

It's possible the Russians feel so fortunate about their big propaganda win at the Helsinki summit that they don't want to jinx themselves by returning to that well so soon.
