The announcement had come months after the USA and South Korean forces earlier in the year postponed two Peninsula-wide exercises, Foal Eagle and Key Resolve, in a pledge to downsize military training until the Winter Olympics in South Korea had concluded.
"This is not helpful!" the statement said. "They are not going to completely denuclearize ever".
But in the next sentence, Trump contradicted his Defence Secretary James Mattis, who had threatened to resume joint military drills between the United States and South Korea as talks with North Korea stalled. "We have no plans at this time to suspend any more exercises", he said, adding that no decisions had yet been made on major exercises for next year.
US President Donald Trump has blamed Beijing for the lack of progress on North Korea's denuclearization, saying China has put North Korea "under tremendous pressure" in response to a trade war Trump had started in the first place.
Facebook bans Min Aung Hlaing, army top brass after United Nations genocide allegations
Facebook also said it had removed pages that the US government had previously named as Russian military intelligence services. Contacted by phone, Myanmar military spokesman Major General Tun Tun Nyi said he could not immediately comment.
The move was broadly criticized as a premature concession to North Korea, which has appeared to resist US moves to persuade it to give up its nuclear weapons. The inter-Korean summit would focus on denuclearisation "regardless of whether Secretary Pompeo visits North Korea or not", the South Korean presidential office said on Thursday.
In his meeting with Trump in Singapore, Kim offered a vague commitment to "work toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" in return for Trump's commitment to build "new" bilateral ties with North Korea and a "lasting and stable peace regime" on the peninsula.
The month-long exercises then kicked off in April and were expected to include 12,000 US troops and almost 300,000 South Korean forces. Trump also used the term after his meeting with Kim when he announced the US was suspending what he called "war games".
"What it means in practical terms is that we're making no changes to the exercise program at this time", Mattis said. These factors only go to show that North Korea may not be ready to host such a conference.
Late Senator John McCain Remembered as 'True Supporter of Israel'
Mr Trump has refused to publish a letter drafted by White House staff on the death of Mr McCain. He had an entire career, an entire life, before Trump took office previous year .
But plans face numerous hurdles, not least wide-ranging sanctions on doing business in North Korea over its pursuit of nuclear weapons in defiance of the United Nations, and the country's unstable electricity infrastructure.
A spokesman for South Korea said, "Now that North Korea and the United States remain deadlocked, a new South-North Korean summit meeting, if anything, will play an even bigger role in helping resolve problems and overcoming obstacles". But North Korea has given no indication it is willing to give up its weapons unilaterally as the Trump administration has demanded. "Because if he came back empty handed again, then that really could be a dead end", said Abrahamian.
Reports suggest that North Korea will be hosting a two-day worldwide blockchain conference in its capital Pyongyang later this year. Citing "recent interviews with North Korean defectors", the report claims that "all of them replied that they don't know about cryptocurrencies in the North".
USA intelligence and defense officials have repeatedly expressed deep doubts about North Korea's willingness to give up its nuclear weapons and had not expected Pompeo's trip to yield positive results.

Brit Hume called out the tweet, which says: "My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain ". Colonel Trần Trọng Duyệt praised McCain for both his conduct during his imprisonment and later work as a US politician.
