No doubts anymore Novak Djokovic has returned to tennis elite

With the US Open 2018 title in his bag, Novak Djokovic equals Pete Sampras' 14 grand slam titles in men's singles.

The Serbian has completed a remarkable comeback from injury and after winning at Wimbeledon earlier in the year he has won back-to-back Grand Slams for the first time since 2016.

Playing on the same court where Sampras claimed his 14th and final Grand Slam crown, Djokovic has endured more disappointment than joy on Arthur Ashe, winning three titles from eight finals.

If Djokovic is reluctant to speak publicly about the idea of going from his current total of 14 to Nadal's 17 or Federer's 20, the Serb's coach isn't.

While US Open finalist Juan Martin del Potro slipped one spot to the number four, Marin Cilic of Croatia lumped one position to hold on the sixth ranking on the list.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz held the office of PML-N on an interim basis in June, 2000, for a period of two years only. According to reports, her health deteriorated on Monday night and she was placed on life support.

It appeared it could be easier when Djokovic broke del Potro in the second game of the set and led 3-1. Each player recorded 31 winners, but del Potro committed 47 errors to Djokovic's 38. After the third round, he did not lose a single set as he was able to outlast a fan favorite in Del Potro.

Djokovic added: "I would like to congratulate Juan Martin for what he's done in the last four, five years".

"I'm very sad for being a loser today but Novak deserved to take the trophy", said Del Potro, who wept into his hands before being comforted by Djokovic. The pain of defeat stung, sure, but the emotions were as much a culmination of a tough stint since that maiden US Open title all those years ago.

The crux of the match came midway through the second set.

Aged just 20, Del Potro defeated Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in successive matches to win the 2009 US Open, and the world No 3 was determined to stay competitive, staying firm following a gritty hold in the opening game of the next set.

6-3 victory under the roof at Arthur Ashe stadium - it was raining in NY - pulled him level with Pete Sampras for third on the all-time men's list.

The imperious Swiss star won the first of his 20-and-counting grand slam titles at Wimbledon in 2003.

"I feel like these guys, rivalries with these guys, matches with Federer and Nadal, have made me the player I am, have shaped me into the player I am". He first won the Wimbledon to announce his return back to top form and has now won the US Open 2018 title comprehensively. I had my opportunities during second and third set. Three times, Djokovic steeled himself.

Despite defeat, world number three Del Potro remained proud after an achievement he never thought would have been possible during his injury hell.

The statement might not have been necessary were it not for the accusations of sexism levelled at Ramos by two of tennis' major stakeholders.
