Amazon Prepping 8 New Alexa Products

Amazon plans to release at least 8 new Alexa devices, including a microwave oven and in-car gadget

Amazon reportedly plans to release a bunch of new Alexa-enabled devices this year — including a microwave

Amazon could reveal these new devices at an event by the end of this year, an internal document indicated, CNBC said. Other planned devices include audio components, like an amplifier and receiver. This cute little device is like a combination white noise machine, personal assistant, and stereo, plus it's fully compatible with Amazon Alexa.

Much like Sonos' partnership with IKEA, the more places Amazon can place its Alexa AI the better it is for the company. Now, it seems Amazon is hoping to take things a step further with a clutch of new devices. Garmin already partnered with Amazon to bring out an Alexa-enabled in-car speaker called the Garmin Speak, complete with a little OLED display for driving instructions. An Alexa-powered microwave oven could possibly allow users to start/stop the microwave, and set cooking times.

Trump wants $275b in China tariffs despite talks
Citing anonymous sources, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal reported that the tariffs would be set at 10 percent. The new round would be in addition to $50 billion in Chinese goods that already face a 25 percent duty.

Amazon is also reported to be working on a secretive home robot.

Having its own home appliances also opens up a new sales channel for Amazon. A survey from digital agency Acquity detailed that by 2019, nearly two-thirds of people plan to own a smart home device. But it looks like the e-commerce firm is planning to expand its hardware portfolio drastically with as many as eight devices if the latest report by CNBC holds some weight. Sonos has a similar business model.

The CEO of Amazon has already made clear his ambition to make Alexa more widely used, as the company wants customers to be able to use the assistant wherever they are.
