ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie has been sacked from the national broadcaster.
"I am devastated by the board's decision to terminate my employment despite no claim of wrongdoing on my part".
He said he could not provide any further insight into why the ABC board removed Ms Guthrie.
"I am considering my legal options", Guthrie said.

Long-time ABC critic and Liberal MP Eric Abetz said Guthrie's replacement must bring to an end "the frolics masquerading as news and "comedy" from some ABC employees".
In a statement on Monday morning, the ABC announced Guthrie had left the position, effective immediately.
He said the decision to sack the managing director was not a reflection on the selection process when she was appointed as Mark Scott's successor.
"I don't think ABC board deliberations ever come out in public".

Ms Guthrie, a former Foxtel and Google executive and media lawyer, has been a controversial figure at the ABC as she managed tighter budgets along with leading expansion into new business areas. On her watch the ABC embarked on a transformation program that saw it invest in digital initiatives, often to increase output of "lifestyle" content, de-fund some "harder" traditional television and radio programs, and collaborated with commercial media organisations on major investigations.
In the wake of her firing, a two-word response by veteran ABC journalist and 4 Corners executive producer Sally Neighbour appeared to sum up the reaction of some senior staff at the ABC.
David Anderson, now director, entertainment and specialist, will serve as acting MD until a new appointment is made in the coming months.
