The airline operating a flight that crashed into a Pacific lagoon on Friday in Micronesia now says that one man is missing, after earlier saying that all 47 passengers and crew had safely evacuated the sinking plane.
Air Niugini chairman Kosta Constaninou had said on Sunday that witnesses reported seeing the missing passenger board a dinghy as USA divers and local residents rescued the passengers and crew from the sinking plane.
The Papua New Guinea national carrier said on Saturday one passenger had not been accounted for, but witnesses had reported he had reached a dinghy as U.S. Navy sailors and local residents rescued people from the sinking plane.
Air Niugini is also in the process of transferring the passengers and crew from PX 073 to Port Moresby, whilst six passengers remain hospitalized in Micronesia. An Air Niugini spokeswoman did not immediately respond on Monday to a request for an update on the search for the passenger and for further details about him, including his nationality.

Air Niugini's Boeing 737-800 aircraft P2-PXE missed the runway and landed on a lagoon on Friday in Chuuk, Micronesia.
An American passenger on the plane, and one of the people who shot the video footage, Bill Jaynes, said that he was up to his waist in water whilst still on the plane.
In 2008, an Asia Pacific Airlines cargo Boeing 727 overran and ended up with its nose landing gear in the lagoon at the end of the Pohnpei airport runway.
"I thought we landed hard, until I looked over to the side of the plane and saw a hole the water was coming in".

A passenger plane has crash-landed into the ocean around the tiny Pacific island nation of Micronesia. He said the flight attendants were panicking and yelling, and that he suffered a minor head injury. However, Jaynes said the only scenario he can imagine is that it hit the end of the runway and continued into the water.
The team was on hand working on improving the wharf area in Chuuk and other operations, the Navy said. Everyone on board survived, Air Niugini said.
