"That was quite something", Trump said at the end West freewheeling soliloquy.

The 41-year-old rapper traded his red MAGA hat and button-down for a purple cap and USPS jacket to spew more of the freakish, cuss-filled, stream-of-consciousness rant he had delivered in the White House.

Donning a signature red "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hat, West, sitting just feet away from the president at the Resolute Desk, talked freely about mental health, prison reform, and improving life for African-Americans.

Kanye has drawn fire from other celebrities over his support of Trump, the former reality TV star now looking ahead to congressional elections on November 6 and his own re-election campaign in 2020. The president's hat said, "Make America Great", Ivanka's blue version said, "Make Earth Great Again", and Jared's black cap said, "Travel Space Again". But, he said, "This hat, it gives me power in a way".

West said the president was fearless for trying to tackle criminal justice issues.

West's mother and father separated when he was young, so he didn't have a lot of "male energy" in the home growing up, he said Thursday.

People quickly took to Twitter to defend the Man of Steel, who would obviously be against things like tax cuts for the rich, detaining immigrant children, and all the toxic racism and sexism that spews out from the White House.

The club shared an image of the typically straight faced Kanye West, with the caption: 'The global break has got us like'.

During one pause in West's comments, Mr Trump said: "I tell you what that was pretty impressive". "There was something about when I put this hat on, it made me feel like Superman", he shared. "I'm just going to be honest and I may get in a lot of trouble for it".

His statement lasted almost 10 minutes before the president chimed in to compliment West on his honesty.

Elsewhere, Swift was not the only major celebrity to perform, with both Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez taking to the stage. Late rapper, XXXTentacion, who was shot and killed in June aged 20 , won a posthumous award.
