Met Éireann have just upgraded the yellow weather warning to a Status Orange for 13 counties, as Storm Callum is officially named.
A storm that's been dubbed "Callum" will pass to northwest of the United Kingdom on Friday, bringing winds of up to 70mph and a prolonged downpour that will create hazardous conditions across the country.
Storm Callum is now experiencing what is know in the world of meteorology as "bombogenesis", where by a system deepens by more than 24hPa inside a 24hr period.
Winds that could top 80mph are forecast to batter western Scotland on Friday followed by downpours across more of the country on Saturday.

A hurricane warning is in effect for the Florida Gulf coast from the border of Florida and Alabama to Suwanee River, Florida. The most recent October landfalling hurricane in the Florida Panhandle was Hurricane Opal - a Category 3 storm in 1995.
The east coast may experience some "localised flooding" but it is not expected to be widespread, unlike the aforementioned counties.
