President Trump said recently that current tariff levels on $200bn (£157bn) of Chinese imports would rise as planned.

Topping the billing is a working dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping, when Trump will press for wholesale reform of the world's second-biggest economy in favour of access for United States companies.

Asked by the paper if he'd go ahead and impose the auto tariffs, Mr. Trump said, "If they don't make a fair deal with us, I'd do it in about 12 minutes".

"We believe that domestic demand is likely to be sufficiently robust so as to keep imports elevated even after any additional tariffs", Sriram said. "And everybody hopefully will be very happy, including China".

The Spurs lost that game and Leonard for the series, and were eventually swept, causing many to wonder what might have been. Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry was sidelined for an 11th consecutive game because of a lingering groin issue.

But with a major United Nations meeting on climate change starting next week in Poland straight after the G20, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres said in Buenos Aires that "this is a make-it-or-break-it moment".

A Reuters poll on Wednesday showed China's factories likely struggled to grow for a second straight month in November as cooling demand at home and the threat of higher US tariffs stifled new orders. All of the worrying predictions of negative effects, he claimed, "have turned out to be false... we're taking in billions of dollars".

Countries that send cars to the US have taken advantage of the country for decades, he said.

That fits in with comments Trump made in a separate interview with the Washington Post.

"I think we're very close to doing something with China but I don't know that I want to do it", Trump told reporters as he left the White House to fly to the G20 summit in Buenos Aires. "But we're going to make a deal with China that's going to be representative of the United States the way it used to be". "I believe both of the major economies - the USA and China - ultimately share this goal, and that should help focus the discussion at the G-20".

However, she soon took a more aggressive stance. "It's the 21st century, and everybody has different tastes", she said. Critics have been quick to point out the irony of her project, considering the president's own social media habits.

Chang told Yahoo Finance there is enormous pressure on Xi that makes it hard for the Chinese leader to deal with the United States in good faith.

But Trump has repeatedly said he wants to bring down the trade imbalance by a whopping $200 billion, which would require China imposing artificial limits to trade.

The weekend G20 gathering, which kicks off on Friday, comes amid increasingly dire warnings by the International Monetary Fund, among others, of the potential harm faced by the world economy from Mr Trump's trade wars. For one thing, China is not keen to upend its entire government-centered development strategy simply to please Trump. "The U.S. saved General Motors, and this is the THANKS we get!" In an unprecedented policy speech last month at the Hudson Institute, Pence had outlined a laundry list of USA concerns on China - from unfair trade practices and foreign interference to its regional aggressiveness in the East and South China Seas.

As a result of Pence's continued articulation of Washington's new stance towards China, APEC member states were unable to produce a joint statement after this year's leaders' summit - they failed to agree on wording related to protectionism and "unfair trade practices". A day earlier, Trump issued a vague threat to GM to preserve a key plant in the presidential bellwether state of OH, where the company has marked its Lordstown plant for closure.

In Buenos Aires, Trump is also due to sit down with Putin for a bilateral meeting that has taken on added import after Russian Federation fired on and detained three Ukrainian ships in the Sea of Azov near Crimea.
