Retiring Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer isn't just one of the highest-paid coaches in college sports - he's the highest-paid public official in the state of Ohio, according to public records.
Meyer's retirement comes on the heels of a tumultuous year in Columbus, Ohio, in which he was suspended for the first three games of the season after an investigation revealed that he mishandled domestic assault allegations made against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith, who was sacked in late June.
Meyer will be replaced by offensive coordinator Ryan Day - who led the team when the head coach served his suspension for the first three games of the 2018 season.

"It was interesting because I've never had him as a head coach, so my first thought was, 'I wonder how this will work out?' but I definitely think he can do it", Murphy said when Day was named interim earlier this year. Meyer's time in Florida over six years included two national championships. Big college football programs pay big bucks for that kind of success, and Ohio State is no exception.

Day had the advantage of being at Ohio State already, but that also shouldn't disqualify him from the job.
