E coli investigation leads to recall of US cauliflower, lettuce in Canada

The California farm linked to the romaine lettuce E. Coli outbreak has now recalled other products as a precaution.

Health Canada has issued a recall on certain cauliflower and red and green leaf lettuce produced by Adam Bros.

The farm issued a news release on December 13, saying it was recalling the cauliflower "out of an abundance of caution" and that there had been no reports of illness and so far none of the newly recalled products have been contaminated.

You may want to check your refrigerator as the E. Coli outbreak for romaine lettuce is expanding. A full list of recalled lot numbers can be found here.

'Filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come in contact with the produce after it was harvested'. The filtered, treated water has tested negative for the bacteria.

In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, or obtain permanent kidney damage.

The FDA asked producers and distributors of romaine lettuce to begin labeling their products with the harvest location and harvest date.

Recalled red and green leaf lettuce was sent to wholesalers in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington state.
