Penny Marshall, Acclaimed Actress and Director, Dead at 75

Marshall is best known for her roles in "The Odd Couple" and "Laverne and Shirley". The series, which aired from 1976 to 1983, was among the biggest hits of its era.

She reunited with her Shirley-Marshall and Cindy Williams filmed a guest appearance on Nickelodeon's Sam & Cat. After directing multiple TV episodes and the Whoopi Goldberg-starring Jumpin' Jack Flash, Marshall helmed the beloved comedy Big, starring Tom Hanks. With her second film, "Big", starring Tom Hanks, Marshall became the first woman to direct a movie that grossed more than $100 million. The movie received two Academy Award nominations and earned $151 million worldwide.

"If it had not been for Penny Marshall, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League would still be unknown". A League Of Their Own, which starring Madonna and other heavyweights, shattered the myth that female-led flicks wouldn't do well at the box office, making $132 million.
