Russia conducts successful test of Avangard hypersonic missile system

Russian Federation has obtained a new type of strategic weapon, ' he said.

From the National Defense Direction Center, Putin personally gave the order to launch in winter conditions the aforementioned system that carries a winged missile of remote-controlled trajectory with hypersonic speed.

The missile that carries the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle is the UR-100NUUTKh, an ICBM-class missile. It can carry conventional or nuclear weapons and maneuver past defenses, according to Russian officials.

"This is a major event in the life of the armed forces and, perhaps, in the life of the country", Putin told his cabinet ministers in televised remarks Wednesday.

Former Barcelona star issues stern warning to club regarding Lionel Messi
The Argentine and Portuguese battled it out in La Liga for the better part of a decade after Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009. Messi further revealed that when he saw the list of contenders for the award, he gave up on making it to the podium already.

The test of Avangard comes amidst a new low in ties between the USA and Russia, caused by numerous reasons - President Donald Trump's intent to establish a permanent military base in Poland, the conflict in Ukraine, and new US sanctions against Russia in response to allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential elections. China's DF-17 hypersonic glide vehicle is estimated by US intelligence agencies to see deployment by 2020.

That is one of the rationales for the super-speedy, nimble Avangard.

The weapon travels in the dense layer of the atmosphere, much higher than other ballistic missiles, and uses a maneuvering glider warhead. At the time, he also cited its potential speed as being 20 times the speed of sound - which is 767 miles per hour.

"The Avangard is invulnerable to intercept by any existing and prospective missile defense means of the potential adversary", Putin said following Wednesday's test, adding that it will be added to Russia's missile arsenal next year.

Trump Returns After Visiting Troops in Iraq
But for the last few months, Trump has indicated that he planned to reverse course and tighten the Defense Department's belt. He led two uprisings against USA forces in Iraq and is one of the few Shiite leaders to also distance himself from Iran.

"These are not bluffs", he wrote. Officials in Washington were also anxious about the rise of maneuverable missiles that can strike their targets within seconds.

But for Putin, displays of terrifying new weaponry represent a way to excite Russians who miss the superpower status of the Soviet Union as well an attempt to bring Washington to the negotiating table.

Last week Putin laid out plans for Moscow to develop mid-range missiles banned under a Cold War treaty with the United States if Washington abandons the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty (INF). State media reported that all technical parameters were verified.

Putin emphasized the Avangard's primary goal.
