Based on the former Prime Minister's media advisor Sanjaya Baru's book, the movie has created a political stir that showed a controversial relationship between Dr Singh and the Congress party. The state, where Congress formed a government with Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister earlier this month, is mulling on a ban on the film, according to reports. The war of words has been making a row over the film as Congress claims the film is BJP's latest propaganda to win 2019 polls by portraying Gandhis especially Sonia Gandhi as a villain.
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has also denied the ban, terming it propaganda by BJP, the ruling party at the Centre.
The Indian National Congress's Maharashtra State Youth Wing has already demanded a special screening ahead of the release of the film. BJP said it was a "riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years". Was Dr (Manmohan) Singh just a regent who was holding on to the Prime Minister's chair till the time heir (Rahul Gandhi) was ready?
