The Bird Box Challenge wallowed somewhere in between being not-a-meme and a meme-in-embryonic-state earlier this month when Netflix tweeted a warning to its users not to engage in this unsafe activity.

The Layton Police Department tweeted two photos of the crash, which they said occurred Monday. "She hit another vehicle, a light pole and a sound wall", local police told the news outlet. In the movie, characters have to move about the outside world wearing blindfolds to avoid looking at an unseen monster that forces people to kill themselves. Police are recommending charges of reckless driving.

A teen driver attempting a new and risky fad inspired by a Netflix movie caused a crash earlier this week, Layton Police say.

"Luckily nobody was hurt but there was quite a bit of damage", he said. One YouTube star also filmed himself driving while blindfolded.

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE", the company tweeted on January 2.
