Albert Finney, the actor whose career spanned kitchen-sink dramas of the 1960s and modern thrillers, has died at the age of 82.

British actor Albert Finney, known for starring in movies like Tom Jones and Skyfall, has died, his family said.

Finney then became the face of British cinema's global explosion after being cast in the title role of Tom Jones, directed by The Entertainer's Tony Richardson.

Finney was nominated for Academy Awards four times in the Best Actor category and once in the Best Supporting Actor category. The Murder on the Orient Express actor was honoured with Golden Globes thrice.

Khashoggi murder ‘planned and perpetrated’ by Saudi officials, says UN
Saudi Arabia has refused to extradite its citizens to Turkey after the country issued arrest warrants for several Saudi officials. Callamard did not name any specific Saudi state officials in her statement.

A new generation of audiences encountered Finney as the tender-hearted billionaire Oliver Warbucks in the 1982 screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Annie. He was last seen as the caretaker of James Bond's family estate in 2012's Skyfall. Both films were nominated for Best Picture.

However, it wasn't until years later - in 1963 - that he truly became a household name, thanks to his performance in "Tom Jones". He's a man who likes to live as well as to act.

I'll always be personally partial to Finney's humorous and warm turn in Steven Soderbergh's Erin Brockovich, and one of my all-time favorite Finney performances is in Tim Burton's 2003 tearjerker Big Fish. "I find that rather admirable".

Finney played the Bond family estate gamekeeper Kincade, who aided Bond and M in fighting back against Javier Bardem's Silva.

He made his movie debut with a small part in The Entertainer in 1960, becoming the face of British cinema for his portrayal of Tom Jones. "Apart from being effortlessly great he was also a great all round example of how to behave".

Other milestones include acting with Audrey Hepburn in 1967's Two for the Road and taking up the director's chair for 1968's Charlie Bubbles.

On the news of his death, the world of theater and film came together to hail Finney's talent. He has two previous wives, Anouk Aimee and Jane Wenham. Roberts won Best Actress for Erin Brockovich. Finney also used his popularity at the time to spark a directing career with a film called Charlie Bubbles in 1968.

Finney's funeral will be held in private.
