Jennifer Lopez took the stage as planned to perform a medley of hits in tribute to Motown Records at Sunday night's Grammys and Twitter users were not impressed. The 49-year-old performer was later joined on stage by Robinson, 78, who sang "My Girl".
But here's the thing: the goal of the tribute was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Berry Gordy's label, with the man himself, now 89 years old, in attendance (and yes, he gave Lopez thundering applause with the rest of the theater).
"The thing about music is that it inspires all". "So now you're gonna to try to diminish the scope of Motown and narrow it down to just music for Black people and you call yourself defending the image of Motown. You are a sick person", Lopez responds through laughter.
England World Cup-winning goalkeeper Banks dies
He was capped 73 times by his country and was an ever-present as Alf Ramsey's team claimed World Cup glory on home soil in 1966. I have great sadness in my heart today and I send condolences to the family he was so proud of .
Turns out that Lopez had both critics and supporters afterward and Robinson tweeted her a thanks.
The star also got some fervent support from Robinson, who told Variety ahead of the Grammys, "I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset".
While another commented: "Jennifer Lopez is doing the Motown tribute and when Janelle Monae [sic] is right there and I just don't understand the creative decision".
"J. Lo better not salsa her way to the cookout because she is uninvited for that awful performance", preacher Jared Sawyer Jr. tweeted on Sunday.
Kylie Jenner throws extravagant party for daughter Stormi's first birthday
In a post following the festivities, Kylie said "I had to go all out for my baby", and yeah, you can't really argue with that. Grandma Kris Jenner and Kylie's sister, Khloe Kardashian , took advantage of the photo op with a mother-daughter shot.
When you think of today's artists who were influenced by Motown, Jennifer Lopez probably doesn't come to mind. Motown was music for everybody.
"This summer I decided I wanted to do something big for my birthday, since it's a big birthday", she says.
She added that Motown producer Berry Gordy and producers of the 61st annual show, were "thrilled" about her involvement.
"Your Motown "tribute" should have had BLACK WOMEN in it".
United boss Solskjaer praises ‘fantastic 80 minutes’ after win at Fulham
Meanwhile, United welcome Paris Saint Germain to Old Trafford on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. Martial's individual goal, featuring a run from midfield, sparked comparisons to Ronaldo's goal at Fulham from 2007.
Once you take a look at JLo's health regimen, you can see she shouldn't have any trouble keeping up pace traveling the country.
