New York attorney general investigates Trump business deals

Deutsche Bank, Investors Bank subpoenaed for Trump Organization records by New York attorney general

The New York Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation into four major projects of the Trump Organization, the real estate and branding firm owned by President Donald Trump.

"New York State and its Governor, Andrew Cuomo, are now proud members of the group of PRESIDENTIAL HARASSERS", the president tweeted.

A person familiar with the matter says Monday's subpoenas seek loan applications, mortgages and other records.

New Jersey-based Investors Bank was subpoenaed for records connected to Trump Park Avenue. Also under investigation is a failed bid for the New York Buffalo Bills football team.

On Tuesday, James lobbied lawmakers in Albany to loosen double-jeopardy laws that prohibit state prosecutors from bringing similar charges against individuals pardoned from federal charges.

The office of Attorney General Letitia James sent out the requests to Deutsche Bank, one of the few remaining lenders to work with Trump in recent years, as well as Investors Bank.

Messages left with the banks and the Trump Organization were not immediately returned.

California governor suspends death penalty
Republican Illinois Governor George Ryan was the first in 2000 and was later followed by Pennsylvania, Washington and Oregon. Though capital punishment hasn't violated the law in California, the state hasn't executed any prisoner since January 2006.

According to the Times, James' investigation in NY is a civil case, not criminal.

Ms James, a Democrat newly elected to office, pledged to look into his business practices, saying after her victory in November that she would be "shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings and every dealing".

Trump has complained that James is waging a politically motivated vendetta against him. Her office has already sued Trump's personal charitable foundation for allegedly using donated funds for business and legal purposes that benefited Trump and his company. Trump and his allies have repeatedly expressed fears about the consequences of investigators' examinings his financial and business history.

Previously, a different NY state agency, which regulates insurance companies, launched an inquiry into Cohen's allegations that Trump also misled insurance companies about his financial worth.

It also follows a New York Times report which claimed that Apple will release its string of TV titles in the spring of 2019 . Further, neither of the popular media services likely feel that they need Apple to attract or retain subscribers.
