Tiger Woods: I am going to have to shut down at times

THE PLAYERS Championship remains a tough, tough test of golf.

"It's not painful now", Woods said.

Woods has a history of playing through injuries, including when he won the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Last year's victor Webb Simpson - who will play with Woods in rounds one and two - is at 40/1. There are times over the years when I'd push it through and I've won a few tournaments that way, but also I've cost myself a few years here and there'.

On the 18th hole previous year, in May, Woods hit 3-iron, 9-iron.

Woods will open his Players campaign alongside defending champion Webb Simpson and reigning Masters champion Patrick Reed in tomorrow's first round.

"It's back to how it used to play", Woods said of the difference in dates.

"My neck? No. It's more my lower back; I've got to keep that moving, even though it's fixed", Woods said.

Woods did not want to commit to a pre-Masters schedule until after The Players was over. However, his best finish in 10 starts at TPC Sawgrass was a tie for 12th two years ago and he tied for 17th last year, so it seems he's starting to figure it out.

He says it started to bother him a little at Riviera, and then more the following week in Mexico City. "I think that everything is headed on track towards April".

As for his health, Woods does not consider that a major concern.

"I hit some bad shots early, rectified that, made a few adjustments, and then went about my business, and then the back nine, there's nine holes on the back nine, made one par, so that was interesting".

"That's the same with social media; that person who took a photo of me. was kind of creepy".
