Apple Launches New 10.5-inch iPad Air, Fifth-Generation iPad Mini

All-new iPad Air and iPad mini deliver dramatic power and capability

Apple finally releases updated iPad Mini, but comes with the same-old boring design

Apple has unveiled a new iPad that's thinner and slightly larger than its current entry-level tablet.

The new iPad Air starts at $499 with 64GB of storage with an upgrade to 256GB for $649.

The iPad Pro models are still safely out of reach for casual tablet users with a starting price of $800.

The iPad range now includes the two new iPad Pro models from 2018, the 6th generation iPad, the new iPad Air and the new iPad mini, with all older models being discontinued.

The main improvement seems to be the latest-generation Apple A12 Bionic chip powering it, which is the same comically-fast chip as the iPhone XS.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram suffer global meltdown (and so do their users)
The social network giant suffered server problems in the last 48 hours, affecting millions of users in North America and Europe. The company said the issue has now been resolved, and all systems are recovering from the outage.

Apple has also added Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support in the new iPad Air. This is a slight increase on the 9.7-inch display found on the iPad Air 2. Both have a lot of common features including the 8-megapixel f/2.4 primary camera, and a 7MP f/2.2 front camera for FaceTime calls.

The iPad Air comes with a 10.5-inch display, and Apple claims the new chipset offers a 70 percent boost in performance and twice the graphics capability as the last gen iPad Air.

The App Store is the best place to discover more than 1.3 million apps designed specifically for iPad - from journaling with Apple Pencil to managing schedules and finances, editing photos, learning, connecting with friends and family, and playing games.

Rocking a 10.5-inch Retina display and A12 bionic chip, the new device is quite the update from the previous model, originally released in 2014.

Apple has made a number of dreams come true and included support for the original Apple Pencil in its brand new, fifth-generation iPad mini.

That was not before Barca had scored a second as the faultless Arthur Melo played an angled pass into Suarez, who wriggled clear. That is likely to cost them at least £8.8m if he makes an early Nou Camp exit.

Apple has tinkered with its iPad line, resurrecting the Air and administering a bit of mouth-to-mouth to the Mini as the company battles tottering sales. Like the iPad Air, the mini only supports the first-generation Pencil, not the second, but thanks to its extreme portability, the new mini combined with the Pencil can be a powerful pairing as a digital notebook. They both have the option of Silver, Space Grey and Gold.

Nearly four years after the release of the iPad mini 4, Apple released its successor - the iPad mini 5.

The iPad mini didn't change in size; it's still a 7.9-inch tablet with a Touch ID beneath the display.

The new iPad Mini and iPad Air are available to pre-order today. The iPad mini is set at $399 for the Wi-Fi only version, and $529 for Wi-Fi + Cellular.

Most damning, though, was how stale the iPad mini's specifications had become.
