A GoFundMe page was started online for "egg boy" which immediately crossed $40k funding for paying off his legal fees and also to buy "more eggs".

Connolly was punched in the face twice by Mr Anning before being tackled to the ground and put in a choke-hold by four of the Senator's supporters.

The 17-year-old, who was swiftly labelled "Egg Boy", egged Mr Anning a day after the politician blamed the New Zealand terror attack that left 50 dead on Muslim immigration.

Simmons wrote "EGG BOY" on the side of his shoes and also commented on Connolly's most recent Instagram post, posting "Australian legend", in the comments section.
